4koma. slice-of-life

delivers a plot, characters with personality, and the history of the world.

many "wait, what? lol" and "oh, dang" (in many ways) moments.

amazing comedic writing.

... if you're a fan of isekai, 4koma, slice of life, parody, comedy, perverted/innocent character, fantasy, cuteness, demon-dogs, or a bit of mystery, this manga's got it all.

it's a shame the manga completed back in 2014, but with what's happened so far in the translated chapters, I'm looking forward to how it uses the devices and situations to wrap up.

Subversive, hilarious, and underrated.

This manga is a parody of the hero story. If you read any of them, you know the premise and setting. You have a hero exploring the world and defeating the "villain" to save the world. However, at nearly every point, it undercuts the tropes and mocks expectations.

The main character is weak and nobody takes monsters or the legends seriously. The hero's companion is actually the "villain." The story questions the morality of the "hero story" while still being light-hearted and funny. Maybe some tropes are overdone like the prevent.

The series is completed but there is yet a translate that goes to ... the end. Probably because there isn't any fanfare for this series. I read to ch 26 and hope to read to the end.

Overall, I liked this manga and I think it's severely underrated.

Story: 3/10
Honestly, the fact that a story was even here is the problem, this seems to be a comedy primarily, I'm really not sure why the sort-of serious storyline was added. Look, I don't usually add spoilers but it's not like you came here for a plot, the main characters meet god at the end. Why? It's silly in a bad way. It adds seriousness where it wasn't needed or expected while simultaneously being overdramatic. Total mood whiplash.

Partway through, the author gives up on the "demon lord is actually helping the Hero" gag and Mao and another character go on to do cute-girls-do-cute-things stuff while ... Alsha goes off on a training arc with a random character who shows up out of nowhere. The CGDCT stuff was pretty fun actually.

Art: 7/10
Very simple but charming art. The characters have distinct designs and actually change clothes rarely. The characters are quite cute or silly looking as befits the character. Not much to say here, I liked the art. It's a 4koma but that's fine, it doesn't need bigger panels.

Characters: 5/10
I couldn’t really tell you anyone's personality beyond one word: glutton, strong, pervert (that last one sees a lot of use). There really is just too much reliance on "haha this one's also a pervert!". None of them are really offensively bad but they're not good by any stretch of the imagination. Still, they're fairly amusing.

Overall: 6/10
Good comedy, over-reliance on people being perverts as the comedy but it has some pretty good jokes. Not amazing but not everything has to be, would recommend if you just want something cute and fluffy but there is certainly better.

• Some characters actually have a change of clothes at some point, not something you see often for some reason
• The sexual jokes can be kind of funny and creative
• Pretty cute

Bad
• Why are there so many female characters whose only personality is that they're always hungry? I mean in manga is general, there is only one such character in this manga.
• The pervert jokes get old
